Daily Self-Breast Massage for Healthier Breast Tissue

Doing this quick routine every day can help promote healthier breast tissue:

1. Open Lymphatic Ducts

Start with your hands near your chest, palms facing you.

  • Place your fingertips in the hollows just above your collarbones. (If you shrug your shoulders, this area will become noticeable.)
  • Very gently pull the skin down toward your collarbones 10–15 times, or more if the area feels tight or congested.

2. Pectoral Region and Axilla (Armpit)

  • Raise your left arm behind your head (or in the air).
  • With your right hand, place your thumb over your chest (above the breast) and your fingers in your armpit.
  • Gently press this area 10–15 times, or more if it feels sore or congested.
  • Repeat on the right side.

3. Breast Pump

  • Cup your hands under your breasts, either one at a time or both together      (depending on breast size).
  • Gently push upwards and inward towards your chest, angling slightly towards the same-side shoulder, and then release (like a gentle pumping motion).
  • Repeat 10 times.

4. Breast Mobilization

  • Hold your left breast in both hands and gently move it in all directions.
  • As you do this, explore the tissue with your fingers and palms.
  • Make sure to cover all areas of the breast, ending with a circular movement of the entire breast
  • Repeat on the right side.

5. Finish with Gentle Strokes

  • Pump both breasts again, then use gentle strokes towards the armpits.
  • Follow this with gentle strokes from the armpits back up to the area above your collarbones.

Get to Know Your Breasts

As you do this routine, take time to notice how your breasts feel. While you move them in all directions, use your fingertips to gently feel for any changes in the tissue. Try to get into the habit of doing this every day, perhaps right before you step out of the shower. You may want to apply some botanical balm or oil as you massage.

Pay attention to any areas that feel sore or firm. Over time, most issues should improve with regular practice. If not, you’ll know it’s time to seek medical advice. Remember that most breast issues are benign, and it's common to experience cyst formation during menopause as part of the normal change process.
